Biography

Homer J Anderson was born in May 1856 in New York, his father, Benjamin, was 44 and his mother, Susan, was 36. He married Margaret J Culton (Hilliard) Anderson on December 18, 1900, in DuPage, Illinois. He worked as a foreman in Illinois, and then as a hotel manager in the state of Utah after he married. He was described in the newspapers as a well liked individual, and was described as a "wonderful grandfather" by his grandson Maxwell Hilliard Ruff (1909-abt.1985) in his autobiography. Full of charm and highly affable, which led to his success in his business ventures. His last recorded employment was as a floor manager for the Parmelee-Dohrmann Co.,[1] billed as "largest china and arts goods store on the Pacific Coast." After his wife's death in 1917, he moved from their bungalow in Pasadena to a residence on Olive Street in Los Angeles and then into the Munn Hotel, also in L.A., where he lived for the rest of his life. He died on June 2, 1931, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 75.
