Gordon was born in 1923 and grew up in West L.A., graduating from University High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a pilot during WWII. In 1943 he married Peggy Mcginnis, with whom he shared a passion for dancing and bridge, and they had three children. His occupation was banker, and he was active in the American Institute of Banking. He was forced into early retirement by health issues, mainly a vascular tumor near his brain. He and his wife did a lot of camping and other traveling during his last decades of life. He passed away in 1983.
