Biography

Inga Lena was born in 1840^[1] as the ninth and last child, and third daughter, of Anders Bengtsson and Sara Andersdotter in Hallen, Brismene parish,^[2] although before she was three years old the family moved to Ingelstorp in Öra parish.^[3] Her father died just eight days after the move^[4][5] (so he was never even entered into the Ingelstorp HHE record) and her mother as well the year after;^[6] her oldest siblings set out on their own but the three youngest children (Börje, 10, Anna Britta, 7, and Inga Lena, 4) were allowed to stay on the farm.^[7][8] Börje left in 1851 and Anna Britta in 1853, and there is a note that Inga Lena at least for some time actually lived in Börstig (likely referring to the deanery, so also including the parishes of Brismene and Kärråkra, and likely with Börje) even though she was registered as living in Ingelstorp; in any case, however, she is noted as working as a maid in Hallen, Brismene, between 1856 and 1859,^[9] then in Tången until 1864^[10][11] and finally in Sonarp Dalbogården,^[12][13][14] where after a year she married her boss, the widower Johannes Persson.^[15] This was somewhat controversial, since she was younger than his oldest son Anders Peter – who, according to family history, even tried to have his father declared legally incompetent in order to stop the marriage.^[16] The attempt was not successful, though, and the two lived together for more than twenty years before she passed away from lungsot (tuberculosis) in 1887, the day after her 47^th birthday.^[17]

Inga Lena and Johannes had six children, of which five survived to adulthood:

• Karl Albert, born 29 April 1875^[20] and died 1 March 1876^[21]
• Emma Josefina, born 15 April 1877^[22]
