There are 2 brothers in this family who can get called Jean Baptiste, the first born in 1658 was baptized Jean Baptiste, the second born in 1662 was baptized Jean only. On the 1682 marriage of Jean Baptiste to Geneviève Guyon, the groom is given the age of 20 or thereabouts (could also be 22 or 23, there is a scribbled word in the record). On the baptism of Marie Anne Amyot on 29 Sept 1685 in Québec, the father is not listed as deceased. The funeral of Jean Baptiste dit Neuville on 20 Sept 1685 gives him the age of 27 or thereabouts. There is no mention of a spouse on the record. Jetté assigns the marriage to the elder brother, and the only mention of the younger Jean after birth is that he died after 1681 census. On the baptism of Marie Anne and the funeral a few days before, the priest is the same, Henry de Bernières. Both records bear signatures so are originals. The marriage with Geneviève Guyon also bears signatures, but the groom is stated not to be able to sign. There is an Amiot who signed that record, and the same signature can be found on baptisms of children in 1690 where the godfather is stated as being Jean Amiot.
Geneviève Guyon died 21 Feb 1686 in Québec according to Jetté, although no funeral has been found for her in Drouin records. Tanguay states that their daughter Marie Anne was posthumous. He gives no death date for Geneviève. Geneviève is not listed as deceased on Marie Anne's marriage record in 1706, but this may simply be an omission. There is no further trace of her found in records after Marie Anne's birth.Liard-1
