Biography

Joseph Ames was born on 15 November 1873 (sometimes listed as December 1873) in Wisconsin, United States to Jacob and Mary (Kegien) Ames. He was a twin to John Ames. In 1880 Joseph was living with his his parents and siblings in Potosi, Grant County, Wisconsin, United States. Joseph married Minnie Offerman, daughter of Nicholas Offerman and Kate Horst, on 5 April 1896 in Grant, Wisconsin, United States. [1] They reportedly had one child who was no longer living. In 1900, Joseph was living with his wife, Minnie, in Julien Township, District 3, Dubuque city Ward 3, Dubuque County, Iowa, United States. They lived in her parents' (Nicholas and Katherine Offerman) household with Minnie's brother, Anthony, sister, Mary Clark, and brother-in-law, Amos H. Clark. Joseph worked as an overall cutter. [2]

However, also in 1900, Minnie, now using the last name of Nagelmaker, was living as a boarder in Precinct 4, South Town Chicago City Ward 2, Cook County, Illinois, United States with her husband, Henry Naglemaker . [3]

In 1905, Joseph was living in Dubuque, Iowa, United States. He had been in Iowa, United States for 15 years and was listed as single. He worked as a garment maker. [4]

In 1910, Joseph was living in Waterloo Ward 3, Black Hawk, Iowa, United States as a boarder. He was listed as single and working as a machinist. [5]

In 1915, Joseph continued to live in Black Hawk Township, Black Hawk, Iowa, United States. He was now listed as widowed and retired. [6]

Joseph passed away in 1937 and is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa, United States. [7]
