Biography

John Ambrose died sometime before 1762, the year Elizabeth Ambrose, his widow, remarried Edrington^[1].

Research Notes

A John Ambrose is mentioned in land deeds in Essex County, Virginia starting in 1713/14. In 1718 he was executor in a will in Richmond County, where he was also appointed Surveyor of Highways. In a 1734 indenture in King George he is called planter.
In 1747 another deed mentions "The Deposition of JOHN AMBROUS aged Sixty three or about". Immediately afterwards, "The Deposition of ELIZABETH AMBROUS aged thirty six or about" is presented. These documents are collected here:^[2]and re-presented here:^[3]. So it is possible that this John was born in about 1684.
Another hypothesis, given the large age difference, could suggest two different John Ambroses, perhaps father and son.
