Biography

Amos was born "on the farm near the Pleasant Grove churches on 3 Jul 1845."[1] He was the son of Jacob Ambrose and Susan Felgar.[2] He married 17 Feb 1875 Mary Brough (b. 15 Aug 1844 - 10 Jun 1921). Mary's father, George, owned a farm west of Mansville, and when Amos and Mary were married, George divided it between Mary and his other daughter, Christina. Mary's portion consisted of 93 acres, back off the road. A four-room house was built on it, with two rooms upstairs and two rooms downstairs. It had a good slate roof which lasted until the 1980s."[1] By 1880, they had two children: George and Susan.[3] In 1996 ownership passed to Amos's great-grandson, Robert, who had "built a large addition to it while retaining the original farmhouse."[1]

Amos died on 29 Nov 1883, leaving Mary with four very young children ranging from a seven-year-old son old down to Baby Ida May who was only ten months old. "With hired help, Mary continued to farm, and when the children were grown, her son bought the farm. She lived with his family until her death. She and Amos are buried at Pleasant Grove."[1][4]
