Biography
Erling Alvsson was the son of Alv Erlingsson the elder and Ingeborg Bårdsdatter of Rein, and was born about 1230. His family was based at Tanberg(Tornberg) in Ringerike, Norway.[1]
He became a lendmann in 1261, and held Borgarsyssel from 1275. He was in the Norwegian-Swedish border commission 1265-1275, and was at the chieftain meeting in Tunsberg in 1277.[2]
He was made a baron in 1277.[1]

He is mentioned in a letter from 9 Aug 1277, regarding a settlement between archbishop Jon av Nidaros and king Magnus Håkonsson.[4]
He is also mentioned in a letter from king Magnus Håkonsson of 22 Sep 1277.[5]
He died in Norway in 1283.[1]

Note: some online trees name his wife Kristina. It is extremely unlikely that this is Christina Birgersdotter, who was attached as the wife of this profile, as she was raising a different family in Sweden at the time. Østenstad-1 18:01, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
