Christened: St. Joseph's Church. Taneytown, Carroll, Maryland.

JTR: vol 5 p 66: wife, Magdalene Strausbaugh, son of john, grandson of Henry; he was a carriage maker by trade.

JTR: Vol 6 p 631; married Magdalene Strausbaugh 6 Oct 1849; witnesses were Brother Michael Geoghan and Patrick Carroll.

JTR: Vol 8 p 227: b 12 Nov 1821, m 6 Oct 1850 Magdalene Strausbaugh, was a sexton at St. Joseph's Church, Hanover and a retired carriage maker; came to Hanover in 1847.

Obit: Died at his home Wed. 3 Mar at 7:35 pm. 87y. 3m. 21d. Ill with a paralytic stroke some months ago. Survived by his wife and only child, Agatha, wife of John Brady and seven grandchildren. Born 12 Nov 1821 on a farm near Taneytown, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Althoff. Came to Hanover when about 17 years of age, employed in the foundry of Samuel Fritz. Married 6 Oct 1850 Magdalene Strausbaugh. Joined his brother, Joseph, in making carriages and in 1854 started his own business. A member of St. Joseph's Church, sexton from 1864. Funeral held on Saturday at St. Joseph's, Rev. Huber, interment at St. Joseph's cemetery.
