Biography

Joseph Allerton was born in Suffolk, England.
Joseph was baptised in 1739 in Worlingham, Suffolk, England. He was the son of Edmund Allerton and Elizabeth Charles.[1]

In 1754 Joseph was apprenticed to William Spratt, a boatwright working in Lowestoft, Suffolk.[2]

Joseph married Judith Sowell in 1762 in Lowestoft.[3] They had six children baptised there between 1762 and 1773:

  • Thomas, 1762[4]
  • Thomas, 1763[5]
  • Elizabeth, 1765[6]
  • Judith Tingey, 1767[7]
  • Ann, 1770[8]
  • Joseph, buried in June 1773.[9]

Judith died in October 1773 at the age of "32".[10] Joseph died in 1798 at the age of 58 and was buried in St Margaret's churchyard.[11]
