James was born in 1827. James enlisted in Company H of the 103rd OVI on 29 Jul 1862. He was appointed 1st Sgt. from Sgt., Co. H, July 01, 1863; promoted to 2nd Lt., Co. I, May 25, 1864; promoted to 1st Lt., Co. A., Nov. 18, 1864. Mustered out with Co A. He passed away in 1890.
