Biography

James Allen was born in Gloucestershire, England.

James was born about 1827. He is the son of Isaac Allen and Sarah Rudge. He was christened on 10 May 1829 at Stinchcombe, Gloucestershire^[1] His brother George was christened on the same day.

When the 1851 census was taken James was living with his parents at Stinchcombe, Gloucestershire. His brothers John, George and Charles also lived at the same address. James' father was a butcher. The occupation of James and his brother's is Land Owner, but this seems to be uncertain and they were more likely to be agricultural labourers, which is James' occupation in later census records. ^[2]

James married Ann Smith on 5 June 1851 at Stinchcombe, Gloucestershire.^[3]

In the early years of their marriage james and Ann had four children, a daughter Mary and three sons, Thomas, Charles and Isaac. Sadly Mary and Isaac both died as infants. When the 1861 census was taken James and Ann are found living at Stinchcombe, Gloucestershire, with their two remaining children, Thomas and Charles.^[4]

James and Ann still lived at Stinchcome in 1871 and 1881. James continued to work as an agricultural labourer. ^[5][6] In 1871 their sons can be found working as servants at local farms.

James passed away in 1891, age 65 ^[7]
