William was born in 1904 at Wood Green in London, the son of Charles William Allen, a school teacher, and his wife Amelia, nee Taylor.
In about 1930 he moved to the Territory of New Guinea where he joined the administration as a policeman. He was the Rabaul Police Stationmaster when the Japanese invaded in Jan 1942. He was captured at Kokopo, near Rabaul and interned as a civilian prisoner. He died on board the "Montevideo Maru" when it was torpedoed and sank off the coast of the Philippines on 01 Jul 1942.
His death form was completed by a brother who was a Major in the Indian Army. Another brother living in Leicester is named in the probate.
