Biography

Fifer James Allen Jr. served with Col William Ledyard's Co at Fort Griswold, Connecticut Militia during the American Revolution.

James Allen Jr. is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A001600.

James Allen was born 24 November 1768 in New London, Connecticut.^[1][2][3] He was the oldest son of Malachi Allen and Abigail.

James served in the American Revolution as a fifer. He entered service at Fort Griswold in Groton, Connecticut in September 1782. He served until news of peace in 1783. ^[1] Two of his daughters, Hannah and Nancy, joined the Daughters of the American Revolution as Real Daughters, members of DAR who were the daughter of a man who served in the revolution.^[4]

James Allen married Abigail Berry on 20 February 1802 in Scarborough, Cumberland, Maine, United States.^[5]

James Allen married Margaret Carver on 20 September 1820 in Wayne, Kennebec, Maine, United States.^[6]

James married Salome Carver about 1824. In the 1850 census James Allen (age 82), Joiner, was in Canton, Oxford, Maine, United States.^[7]

In the 1860 census James Allen (age 91) was in Canton, Oxford, Maine, United States.^[8]
