Biography

Research Note: In Joseph Allen's original profile, it states that "Applications for membership in the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution have been made by the descendants of his son, Benjamin Allen." In the updated records of the DAR the following two notations have been added: (1) The proof of service used to establish this person as a patriot is no longer valid." and (2) "This man was of the Quaker faith. No documentation to show disowned for military service." As such, the 1776 sticker is not warranted.

Joseph Allen was born in 1730, in Orange county, Virginia (in what is modern day Frederick county) Joseph was a member of the Society of Friends, also known as "Quakers." Applications for membership in the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution have been made by the descendants of his son, Benjamin Allen, who married Hannah Walton. DAR records indicate that Joseph died in 1805, in Shenandoah county, Virginia. ^[1]
