Biography

Donald James Alchin was born in 1880 at Gunning, New South Wales, Australia. His father was John Alchin and his mother Sarah Ann Atkins. ^[1]

He married Martha Ellen Tickner in 1902 at Cootamundra, New South Wales, Australia. ^[2]

He was widowed when Martha died in 1940 in Gouburn, New South Wales. ^[3]

He married Ivy Ellen Hoskin (née Smith) in 1940 at Granville, New South Wales, Australia. ^[4]

He died, aged 73, on 18 July 1954 in the Berrima District Hospial, Berrima, New South Wales and was buried at the Bong Bong Christ Church Cemetery, Bong Bong, near Moss Vale. ^{[5] [6]}

OBITUARY

DONALD J. ALCHIN^[7][8]

The death occurred in the Berrima District Hospial, on Sunday of Donald James Alchin late of Bulwar Road, Moss Vale, at the agd of 73 years.

He was a resident of the Wagga district for many years and later came to Goulburn to reside. He was an employee of the Railways Department for many years, being top dock ganger at the Goulburn workshop at the time of his retirement in 1940.

Mr. Alchin was also an ardent worker for the Independent Order of Oddfellows' Lodge, of which he was a member for over 50 years. Brother Frank Conway represented the I.O.O.F. Lodge at the funeral.

He had experienced an illness some months ago, but recently was apparently enjoying the best of health.

He was of a happy disposition and was a keen conversationalist.

Mr. Alchin was predeceased by his wife, who died 14 years ago and one daughter, Doris (Mrs. J. Harvey).

He is survived by four daughters and three sons. Dulcie (Mrs. Pearson, 65 Cowper Street, Goulburn), Winnifred (Mrs. Warren, Junee), Martha (Mrs. Cunningham, Parkes), Joy (Mrs. Tonkin, Moss Vale) and Vivian (Newcastle), Donald (Camden) and Leslie (Batlow).

Burial took place at the Bong Bong Cemetery, Moss Vale, on Monday at 2.30 p.m.
