Biography

Don Aitkin was Vice Chancellor of the University of Canberra from 1991 to 2002.

Donald Alexander "Don" Aitkin was born in Sydney, New South Wales, in 1937.[1] He was the son of Alexander George Aitkin and Edna Irene Taylor.

He was married to Beverley Ann (21 April 1942 - 23 Dec 2020). They had 9 children from previous marriages.

He passed away in Canberra on 12 April, 2022.[2][3]

Honours

Don Aitkin was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1998.

The University of Canberra holds an annual Don Aitkin lecture on major contemporary social, scientific and cultural issues. The first lecture was given by Aitkin in 2005.
