Biography

Martha V. Aikey was born in October 1913 in Cumberland, Maryland. Her parents were Paul Aikey (1889-1935) and Mary Alice Oberdorf (1894-1977). By 1920 the family had moved to Buffalo Township, Union County, Pennsylvania where her father was working as a carpenter.^[1] By 1930 at age 16, Martha was living with the Donald and Miriam Feaster family on their farm in East Buffalo Township, Union County and working as their cook.^[2]

She married Charles Edgar Kline (1909-1980) in December 1930.^[3] Their children included:

1. Christiana Lucille Kline (1931-1990)
2. Martha Edith Kline (1937–2003)

They lived in Lewisburg, Union County throughout most of their marriage.^[4] In 1950 she was on the cleaning staff at Bucknell University in Lewisburg.^[5] She also worked as a seamstress for Quaker Manufacturing until she retired in 1975 after 28 years.^[6]

Charles passed away in 1980. In 1994, Martha moved into Riverwoods Nursing Home.^[6] She passed away in 1999 at age 85 and was buried with Charles in Lewisburg Cemetery, Lewisburg, Union County (Plot: Section 3C, Plot 1661).^[7]

Research Notes

• Her obituary and the 1930/1950 census records said that she was born in Maryland. However, 1920 and 1940 census records say that she was born in Pennsylvania. Can a birth certificate or baptism record be found to verify where she was born?
