Biography

Marjorie (Aiken) Kirklen is a part of US Black heritage.

Marjorie Aiken was born on 19 Sep 1906 in North Carolina. She was the daughter of Jim Aiken and Mary Smith.[1][2][3] Her father died in 1909 when she was three years old.[3] In 1910, their family was living in Brevard, Transylvania County, North Carolina.[2]

Marjorie married Oscar Harris on 15 Jun 1929 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.[4] In 1930 they were working as a butler and a cook for the Holland H Newell family in Shaker Heights, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.[5]

By 1950, Marjorie had married James H Kirklen and they were living in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.[6]

Marjorie was mentioned in her sister Loretta 's will ("Jackie 'Moms' Mabley) when Loretta passed away in 1975..[7]

Marjorie died on 6 Jul 1978 in Cleveland Heights, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.[1][8][9] She was buried in Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland.[10]

Research Notes

  • Marjorie has not yet been identified in the 1920 or 1940 census records. Her mother married George Parton early in the 1910's and in 1920 was living in Washington D.C. with him and their two young sons. None of her minor children from her marriage with James Aiken were living with her.
