Samuel was born September 16, 1895 (see Notes) in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States.[1] His parents, both Lithuanian immigrants, were Simon Adelson and Anna (Levine) Adelson.[2]
In 1900 Samuel lived in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States with his parents, his four siblings, and his paternal grandparents.[2] In 1910 Samuel lived in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States with his parents and nine siblings.[3]
Samuel was a laborer employed by Simon Adelson & Sons when he registered for the World War I draft, probably on June 5 1918 (see Notes), in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, United States. He was single, 5' 5" tall, and slim with dark brown hair and eyes.[1]
Samuel married Eva (Cohen) Eisenberg October 10, 1928 in the Bronx, Bronx, New York, United States.[4]
In 1930 Samuel and Eva lived in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States.[5]
When Samuel registered for the World War II draft April 27, 1942 in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States, he was living at 41 S Welles and listed his nearest relative as Miss Ruth Adelson of 62 S Welles. Employed by Simon Adelson & Son at 143 Lee Park Ave in Wilkes-Barre, Samuel was 5' 9" tall, weighed 180 pounds, had brown eyes, "black/gray/bald" hair, a ruddy complexion, and a heart tattoo on his right arm.[6]
Sam died July 2, 1966 in Pennsylvania, United States and was buried in the Anshei Emmes Cemetery in Plains, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States.[7]
Birth Year
There is believed to be an error in Samuel's Social Security Death Index record, which states his birth date as September 16, 1896.[8]
Although this record would normally be considered most reliable of all records that have been found, all other records that show his birth date list it as September 16, 1895 (including draft registration records which are also considered reliable).
World War I Draft Registration
The date on Samuel's registration record does not include the year. Registrations were recorded in 1917 and 1918. Since Samuel was under 18 years of age on that June 5, 1917, it is presumed that he registered for the draft June 5, 1918.
