Jane ADDERLEY, with her sister Mary, emigrated to the Colony of New South Wales as one of 162 orphan girls aboard William and Mary, which arrived at Port Jackson on 21 November 1849. Her entry in the shipping records describe her as a 17 year old farm servant, reads only, no relatives in colony. Their parents were listed as "Thomas and Eliza (both dead)". [1] [2]
Upon arrival, Jane was employed by Edwin BEILBY, of Woolloomooloo, the contract being for £8 per year. In 1851 she was employed by J JARDINE, of Fitzgerald Swamp at £8 per year. [2]
In August 1855, Jane married Francis E. BEILBY (cabinet maker & carpenter; brother of her former employer Edwin BEILBY) at Bathurst, New South Wales. [3] [4] [2]
Jane and Francis lived at Alloway near Bathurst, then Wellington, Orange & Guyong. They had six children. [2]
Jane died on 20 October 1908, at the Experimental Farm, Wagga Wagga, New South Wales; Francis had predeceased her in 1892. [5] [2]
In 2011, at the Hyde Park Barracks, Sydney, New South Wales, a memorial to the Irish Famine Orphan Girls was erected - Jane and Mary were among those named: "Adderley Jane & Mary, Glenmore, Offaly". [6]
