Biography

William Eddrup Adcock was born in 1847 [1] , the son of George Adcock and Mary Ann Goodwin.

He married Emma Sharples on 30 Dec 1865 in at his parents' residence in Richmond, Victoria, Australia.[2]

Marriage Notice 4 Jan 1866[3]

ADCOCK—SHARPLES.—On the 30th ult., at the house of the bridegroom's father, Bridge-road, Richmond, by the Rev. A. M. Henderson, W. E. Adcock, second son of Mr. G. C. Adcock, to Emma Sharples, eldest daughter of the late Mr. J. Sharples, Bolton, Lancashire.

Their children were:

William Eddrup ADCOCK was sued for insolvency from 1888[11] in South Australia and spent just over 3 years in prison[12]

Wife, Emma ADCOCK passed away in 1894 in Calton, Victoria.

Annie Bowcott Mary WHEELER and widower, William Eddrup ADCOCK were married on 25 Apr 1898 at St. Clement's Church, Mossman, New South Wales[13]

ADCOCK—WHEELER.—On the 25th April, at St. Clement's Church, Mossman, Sydney, by the Rev. E. C. Beck, Wm. E. Adcock, of Carlton, Victoria, and W.A., to Annie Mary Bawcott Wheeler, eldest daughter of Frederick Wheeler, of Fremantle, W.A.

Their children included:

  • Beryl Kathleen Adcock (1903–1982)
  • Frederick Noel Adcock (1905–1989)

William died in 1931 in Kew, Victoria.[15] and was buried at the Burwood Cemetery[16]

ADCOCK. — On the 18th May, 1931, at his residence. No. 32 Maitland Avenue, East Kew, William Eddrup, the dearly loved husband of Ann Adcock, loving father of Will, Florrie (Mrs W. H. Flood, dec.), Charlie, Lil (Mrs A. S. Chlnn). Percy, Rose. Beryl (Mrs A. T.Conn) and Noel. Aged 84 years.

ADCOCK, William Eddrup. Arr. 10.2.1887 per Franklin from S.A . Darwin merchant who financed his sons in business at Derby 1885 when gold was discovered in Kimberley. Retired to Melbourne. [18]

Immigration

William ADCOCK, his parents, George and Mary and 3 of siblings (George, Eliza and Marianne) arrived in South Australia in 1849. (Sister, Marianne Goodwin ADCOCK was born in London in 1849 and passed away on 28 Nov 1850 in South Australia) According to a newspaper article in 1849[19] George (father) was a storeowner and first, imported stock aboard the barque, Asiatic which arrived on 26 Dec 1849 however the family are not on the passenger list and therefore must have arrived on an earlier ship the same year.
