Matthew was born in 1804. He was the son of Richard Adams1770-1832 and Mary Elizabeth Hutchings 1766–1846 Baptism He was baptised on November 25 1804 at Thorborough Parish in Buckingham. [1]
Matthew married Eliza (Miller) Adams (1819-1875) in Buckinghamshire England in June 1844. [2]
Matthew and Eliza departed from London, Cork to Australia in 1844 arriving at Port Phillip Bay as assisted migrants 22 September 1844 on the vessel "Abberton". He was aged 39 upon arrival and she was aged 26. Richard Adams and his wife Bettey (nee Barrett) travelled to Australia with their five children, as well as Matthew and Eliza. [3]
According to the Doncaster Templestowe Historical Society, Matthew was a settler on the 'Carlton Estate', given this name by an attorney named Atkinson who with Frederic Unwin surveyed and subdivided the land.
Matthew died in 1873 aged 68. His wife is named on the death index, as well as parents "Richard Adams and Mary Rolston". Birthplace Buckinghamshire. [4] Matthew is buried at Templestowe Cemetery in Victoria. [5]
