Biography

David was born about 1859 in Beaverton (Thorah Township), Ontario^[1]. Son of John and Mary Adams, David spent his early years and first worked as a telegraph operator.^[2]

On December 18, 1884 David married Charlotte E Soper in Albert Lea, Freeborn, Minnesota.^[3] The couple moved to Winnipeg shortly thereafter based on oldest son, Herbert Elden, is shown as born in Manitoba, about 1883, on the 1901 Census.

David began working as a bookkeeper for a coal mining company, later managing and eventually founding his own Company, D E Adams Coal Co Ltd.

David was active in the Winnipeg community. He was a member of the Board of Managers of Augustine Church, a charter member of the Winnipeg Rowing Club Building Committee, and a Mason, connected with the Ancient Landmark Lodge, as well as the Scottish Rite.^[4]

The family continued in resident at Winnipeg where David became involved in various Coal enterprises. In 1916, David was retired and he was a resident of Winnipeg with Charlotte and daughter Dorothy. In addition to a servant, Margaret Doyle, sister Wilhelmine Murrell was also at the home.^[5]

He passed away about 1919 in Southern California and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery,Altadena ^[6][7]

2. Removed Category for Needs Birth Record; births were not required to be reported in Ontario until July 1, 1869. Records before this date would be found solely in family bibles or parish records (i.e. the Drouin Collection for Roman Catholic records or the Wesleyan Methodist Baptismal Registers). Unable to find birth/baptismal record, however, David did report birth date of April 26, 1860 for the 1901 Census.
