In 1903 he was called to be a missionary in Mexico for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was set apart by Patriarch John Smith on 25 May 1903.[1] He had been to Mexico previously and had met a woman named Isabel Chamberlain while traveling there. They married on 6 January 1904[2] and both spent the next several years in Mexico.
