Randall Adams Sr. is part of a Bahamian family.

Biography

Randall W. Adams, Sr. was born January 1st 1798 in Hope Town, Abaco, Bahamas and was baptised there on June 24th 1799. He later lived in Green Turtle Cay, Abaco. On August 23rd, 1817, he married Amelia Roberts at Christ Church Cathedral in Nassau, Bahamas. Their witnesses were George Smith and Anne Kelsey.[1] He was a carpenter. In 1832 he purchased five slaves from the estate of Anthony Wallace. The 1834 Slave Register lists Susan Adams (b. abt 1810, Nancy Adams b. abt 1822, William Adams b. abt 1824, Thomas Adams b. abt 1826 and John Adams b. abt 1827.[2]

Within a few years he moved to the Florida Keys and lived on Plantation Key[3] or Indian Key. He survived an attack by Seminole Indians by hiding in a cistern.[4] This may have been the Indian Key Massacre of August 7th, 1840. By 1844 he moved his family to Key West, Florida.[5]

He passed away in 1860, and was buried in the Key West Cemetery, Key West, Monroe County, Florida.[6]
