Biography

James was born in 1918. He was the son of Morgan Ables and Hazel Gaddis. He passed away in 2001. In his daughters memoir referenced below: "Although born in Washington, D.C., I grew up in Latin America. My father, James Quentin Ables, a Missouri farm-boy, had, after his military service, moved to the capital to work as a senate page. In Washington, he had fallen in love with Martha Benitez, a Puerto Rican beauty. My mother opened my father's eyes to the foreign and exotic. So it was't any surprise that, after their wedding, Daddy signed up with the Foreign Service." "I was just over a year old when our small family moved to Mexico City, where Daddy served as Vice-Counsul, Military and Agricultural Attache at the American Embassy."
