Staff Sergeant Isaac Abeyta was a Prisoner of War in Stalag 17B during World War II.
Isaac was born 1 February 1920 in Tierra Amarilla, New Mexico.
Isaac was the Tail Gunner on the B-24 Liberator bomber, Marguerite - # 21-23936-J, participating in Operation Tidal Wave the low-level attack on the Romanian oil refineries at Ploesti on 1 August 1943. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for the mission.
Isaac was aboard the B-24 bomber Queen Anne 41-23936 1 October 1943 which was attacked by fighters on bombing run on Wiener, Austria. He bailed out with one other airman. Isaac became a German Prisoner of War in Camp: Stalag 17B Braunau Gneikendorf Near Krems Austria 48-15. He is listed as Missing in Action 1 October 1943 [1] and is returned to Military Control 8 May 1945.[2]
He married Fabiola Ester Chavez 23 December 1946 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.[3]
He passed away 16 September 2015 in New Jersey.[4]
