Biography

Jennett was born in 1783 in St. Mary's county, Maryland. She was baptized on 4 May 1783, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. She was the daughter of Edmund Abell and Elizabeth Thompson. Edmond Abell was surety on the the marriage license of Jennett and Samuel, 2 May 1808 in Nelson County, Kentucky. She died 23 September 1845 in Meade county, Kentucky. She was buried in the Abell and Stith Family Cemetery outside of Brandenburg, Meade county, Kentucky[1]

Jennett, Samuel and their children moved to Hardin County, Kentucky prior to 1819. Samuel purchased the land they had been renting on January 20, 1819.[2]

She inherited slaves from her father in his will.[3]

"Fourther, I give & bequeath to my daughter, JENNET ABEL, one Negro girl named Fidelia, one Negro Boy, named Washington and one Negro boy named Jerry, together with all the property of every description I have heretofore given her and her husband, SAMUEL ABEL."
