Johann Heinrich August Abel was born on May 27, 1864 in a small village called "Breese in der Marsch", a small village or section of the town of Dannenberg, Germany. At the time of his registration he was domiciled in the town of Wibbese, in Lower Saxony. This area once was known as part of the Kingdom of Kingdom of Hannover. He may have been born of an illigitimate birth and his mother's last name was Abel. He then took his step-father's last name which was "Lau". (This needs more birth and marriage records to clarify)

Ancestry Story: Henry August Lau was born on May 27, 1864, in Wibbese, Lower Saxony, Germany, his father, Johann, was 34 and his mother, Dorothee, was 32. He married Georgia Anna Godfrey on April 13, 1898, in LaMoure, North Dakota. They had 14 children in 25 years. He died on March 19, 1930, in LaMoure, North Dakota, at the age of 65, and was buried in La Moure, North Dakota. ^[1]
