William Geoffrey Abbott was born on 5 Apr 1890 in Upper Norwood, Surrey, England.[1][2] His parents were Emmanuel and Rosa Abbott.[1] He was baptised on 28 Nov 1890 in Norwood Christ Church.[3]
In the 1901 England census, William was 10 years old and living with his family in Maidstone, Kent.[4]
William followed his brother Frank to North America. William and his brother Charles Frederick Abbott arrived in Quebec, Canada in 1912, heading to Toronto.[5]
William then moved to the US. William Geoffrey Abbott (born Norwood, England; parents Emmanual and Rosa) married Emily Atkinson Burroughs (born Manchester, England) on 26 June 1915 in Newton, Massachusetts, USA. He was an upholsterer, living in Newton, Massachusetts; she was a dressmaker from Toronto, Canada.[6]
They had a daughter Anne Joan, born 18 Aug 1917 in Albany, New York; died 2 Jun 1918 in Watertown, Massachusetts);[7]
They subsequently had sons Frank and William, and then after 10 year in the US moved back to Montreal where Margaret was born.[1]
William (Bill) and Millie Burroughs subsequently settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Frank joined the navy in WWII; he subsequently married Aubrey, and had daughters Wendy Joy and Maureen. William ("Buzz") was in the air force, and was killed in Bournemouth UK during a bombing raid (about 1943). Margaret did not marry.[1]
William died 1 May 1970 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.[1][2] He was buried at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Winnipeg.[2]
