By 1911, Edmund, then aged 15, had joined the Royal Navy as a student Naval Cadet, and was at The Dartmouth Training College ^[3]

Edmund saw service in World War I, and by 1917 he had been promoted to Lieutenant.

On 5 August 1919, there was an explosion on the ex German battle cruiser 'Baden', which was moored in Invergordon, Scotland. Edmund, and a party of men, entered the ships hold and retrieved the bodies of two workmen, one of which had died, but the other was still alive and was saved,

Edmund received the Albert Medal for this heroic action on 12 March 1920, and in 1971, he exchanged his medal for the George Cross.

He married Vanda C Ross, in Portsmouth in 1926. ^[4]. (He may have been connected to the wrong spouse here)

Edmund died in Frimley Surrey on 3 April 1974, ^[5] and was cremated in Easthampstead, his home address at the time was Crowthorne, Berkshire. ^{[6] [7]}
