Biography

Berte Johanne was born in February 22, 1838 at Erkegarden, Akre, Norway. She was baptized April 16.^[1] She was one of three children of Anna Eriksdatter Aakre and Bernt Kristian Rasmusson Rorstad.

In the census 1865 she was living in Volda and worked as a Seamstress^[2] She was unmarried and her age is given as 26 years.

She married in 1867 to Jon Aarsnes/Orsnes.^[3] Berte Aakre passed away in 1931. They farmed at Voldsgarden, Akre, Norway until her death. They were the parents of six children,

Peder (1868-1949), BERNT (1870-1947), Anne Berthe(1872-1962) , Anne Oline (1874-1900, Ole (1900-1968), Anna Brigitte (1881-1968

In the 1875 census she lived at Sundalsfold farm in Volda with her husband and sons Peder and Bernt.^[4]

In the 1891 census she lived at Aakre farm with her husband and children.^[5]

In the census of 1900 she was living on the farm Aakre with her husband John Pedersen and her daughter Ane Berte.^[6]

In the 1910 and 1920 censuses she lived at Aakre farm with her husband John and daughter Anna.^[7][8]

She passed away in 1931.^[9]

Peder came to America for a time but returned to Norway to take over the farm. He died unmarried.

BERNT came to America in 1891 where he met and married his wife who was also from the Hjorundfjord. They had nine children.

Anne Berthe never married

Anne Oline never married.

Ole Andreas stayed in Norway and married a Mork and took that name. His descendents farm the Aakre Farm at Bjorke

Anna Birgitte never married. She also came to America for a time but returned home in 1905.
