Hi & thank you for joining the Virginia Project.

We have two google groups - one for discussion (https://groups.google.com/g/wtvirginiadiscuss) and one for managed profiles (https://groups.google.com/g/wtvirginia). Send a join request if you'd like to join either or both (INCLUDE YOUR WIKITREE ID SO WE KNOW IT IS YOU.)

When you get a chance, please add your info on the Virginia Team page:(https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Virginia_Team). If you haven't already looked it over, Virginia Project (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Virginia) is the main project page and has lots more information.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers,

Sjana Virginia Project Coordinator

How do I add my info on the Virginia Team Page? Jw

I am unsure which team to join

Hi Sarah,

Skye is away for a couple of weeks and asked me to respond. Is there a team that interests you? I'm not able to see your tree because it's private, so I'm unable to see where in Poland your ancestry is and what you might be a good fit for. Feel free to email me and we can discuss it further.

Thanks,

Hello Sarah! It seems more like you need assistance for your Polish heritage? Take a look at our Poland Project page: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Poland (specifically "requesting help"). Also take a look at our library: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Poland/Resource_Library which guides you through resources that are available for you to search. Because the settings on your profile page are private, we cannot access your tree to find your ancestor that needs a category assigned.

If you do get to the point where you are able to find the record for your ancestor, it most likely would be in Russian. There are many groups on Facebook who can help with translating.

Thank you!

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for joining the Germany Project! I've awarded you a project member badge. When you have a chance, please do the following:

1- Read the main Germany Project Page (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Germany) to familiarize yourself with what we do and what is required of project members.

2- We built a Free Space Page with all our different means of communication. You can read about them here (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Germany_Project_Communication)

We look forward to working with you! Please feel free to contact me with any questions any time.

Thanks! Jelena Eckstädt, Germany Project Coordinator

Hi Sarah,

I was wondering if you would consider adding me as a profile co-manager on a few of my direct ancestors. The people who were responsible for creating them cited me as the source for the majority. I have even more source material for them than before and have finally become better acquainted with formatting profiles. Thanks for considering my request. The ones I am interested in working on include John Coons (1742-1839) Coons-99 and his wife Elizabeth (Button) Coons Button-273, Anna (Coons) Kemper Coons-719, and William Whitesides (c.1699-aft.1783) Whitesides-92. Again, thanks for considering my request with these ancestors.

Kind regards,

Todd Whitesides

Sarah,

I hope you like the expanded bios and sources I've been adding. I have a lot more to add. It takes me a while though as I've had a stroke and I wear out quickly these days. Hopefully the physical therapy will improve this. Kind regards, Todd

Hi Sarah,

It’s time for our annual Ireland Project check-in! Please respond within the next two weeks to let me know:

  • If you are happy with the team you’re on or if you’d like to make a change. It is now required that all members with an Ireland project badge work on at least one of the project’s team(s), so if you’ve not yet signed up please do so in your reply to this check-in.
  • What you think the project is doing well, and what (if any) changes you would like to see us make? Are there any teams you would like to become more active in?
  • Would you be interested in helping to work on an Ireland Project newsletter?
  • Please give us some feedback on the use of google group and discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way for us to ensure you receive project communications? If you would like to join us on either one, just let us know in your response and we will get you signed up.

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within two weeks, we will assume you are no longer interested in participating in the Ireland Project, and your badge will be removed. If you wish to reapply for membership later, we will be happy to have you back. Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Jen Hutton, on behalf of the Ireland Project

Re: Joseph Jacob, b1750.

Sarah, It is true Joseph Jacobs was born in Maryland, but this Joseph is listed among Jeremiah Jacob’s other children in his 1781, Rowan County, NC will. Joseph and his brother, Edward Gaither Jacobs (who was also listed in his father’s will), left NC and moved to East Tennessee before 1800. Then both moved to Wilson Co., Tennessee, circa 1803. This is about the time an “s” was added to their last name. In 1834, now living in Bedford County, Tennessee, Joseph applied for a pension, claim #36532. In it he stated that after his service discharge he went home to Rowan County, NC.

My cousin, Frank Jacobs, was dna tested at FamilyTree DNA (Kit #140785) and matches closely with others who descend from Jeremiah Jacob, born 1713, and his wife, Rachel Gaither. My mitochondrial dna (Gedmatch Kit KL2821804) matches that of both the descendants of Jeremiah Jacob, the Gather family, as well as Summer, Lee and others who are descendants of Jeremiah Jacob and Rachel.

There is a record for a christening of a Joseph Jacob on 2 April, 1707, Ann Arundel, Maryland, who’s parents were listed as Joseph Jacob and Elizabeth [nee Joanes] Jacob. I believe the Joseph Jacob you are referring to is most likely this Joseph and the record has been transcribed incorrectly. I would like to see the original document, but there can be no doubt the Joseph Jacobs, born 1750, was the son of Jeremiah Jacob and Rachel Gaither.

Hi Sarah,

I haven’t heard back from you about the break up of the United Kingdom Project. I hope all is well with you. I assume you don’t wish to join any of the country-level projects at present, and will go ahead and remove the United Kingdom badge. If you wish to join England, Scotland, Wales or Ireland in the future, you would be most welcome to do so via the respective G2G sign-up post.

Many thanks for all your contributions,

Susie :-)

Hi Sarah,

We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.

Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please don’t assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.

Many thanks,

Susie

Hi Sarah,

I notice the changes you've been making to the family of Lewis Reneau. Please note that according to the Pre-1700 help pages, "before creating a new pre-1700 profile you should find out if there is a project that covers the family and ask whether a profile already exists" . Also when editing pre-1700 profiles - and changing or adding parents is a major change, you should communicate with projects and managers of existing profiles. See Communication Before Editing. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Isabelle, French Roots project leader

Hi Sarah and thanks for your post on G2G.

I've added the UK and Scottish Clans Project badges to your profile. I've also added your name to each of the members interest pages.

Thanks for joining and good luck with your research.

Hi Sarah and thanks for your post on G2G.

I’ve added the Irish Roots Project badge to your profile. If you click on the badge it will take you to the full list of our wonderful members. Click on Irish Roots Project will take you to the first page of the project. I've added your good self to the member interest page. Here you can let others know which counties or names you are researching etc.

Thanks for joining the project and good luck with your research.

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Participation in a project is strongly encouraged for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles.

It looks like United States History would be a good fit with the tag you entered. Adding the tag United_States_History will help you get updates about activity for that project.

Is there a particular time period, location, or topic you're interested in? Do you have some historically-significant ancestors? Look at the list of active projects to see if one fits your needs.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)

Hi Sarah,

I saw your recent post on G2G and wanted to invite you to join in our "Weekend Chat".

It's a popular weekly G2G post where many the members visit and share in a variety of topics. New people say "Hi" and introduce themselves, Leaders and Mentors give tips and answer questions, and regulars share updates on their latest projects and victories... anything they wish to chat about. I most enjoy stories of famous or nefarious ancestors.

We'd love to hear form you, stop in when you're able!

Hi Sarah,

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Hello,

Thank you for joining WikiTree. As a WikiTree Mentor I am available to answer any questions or help solve any issues you may be having. How is your experience with Wikitree going? If you have questions regarding Gedcoms, here's the link to the GEDCOM help category: GEDCOMS

Do you have Royal Ancestors? They are already here on Wikitree! Rather than create duplicate profiles for them, please contact the EuroAristo Project to discuss connecting your family line to their profiles. The Help Index is also an important place to find how to do most tasks.

Feel free to ask me via my profile page if you have any questions.
