Even though my family name is Colter ( formally Coulter, Coultherd) i can tell you last names was not a thing until after the war of Normandy. Last names are only a European thing. Up until after the war of Normandy ppl were known by who their parents were, their occupation, where they were from. Sometimes you will also find the last names spelled differently. This is called a soundex.. it derives from a soundex system. When usuallyin english. Someone else wrote their name ( an interpreter) usually because the person was either illiterate are somewhat uneducated, Backwoods( unsocial) for their accent was so muddled it was hard to understand what they were saying. So The Interpreter sounded it out what it sounded like the person was saying. Hope this helps! James King

Hi Anne,

I wrote to you in May about the restructuring of the Ireland Project. I don’t seem to have received a reply. In the circumstance I presume you no longer wish to be a member of the Ireland Project. We’ll be sorry to lose you, but unless I hear from you by the end of July I will delete the active Project member badge from your profile.

Thanks for all the previous contributions you have made to the Ireland Project.

Hi Anne,

The Ireland Project (previously the Irish Roots Project) has now changed its structure into Teams. We require everyone with the Ireland Badge to be a member of at least one Team or Sub-Team and our google group. See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Ireland for details. The Teams are :-

1. Categories Team
2. Counties Team
3. Managed Profiles Team
4. Membership Team
5. Profile Improvement Team
6. Topics Team
7. Diaspora

? Can you let me know if you’d like to stay on in the new project and which team(s) you’d like to join. Please also let me know your e-mail address so that I can get you added to the project’s Google Group or confirm you are already a member of the google group.

Many thanks,

Maria

Phil Coulter a famous Irish Musician and song writer was born in Derry (Londenderry) Northern Ireland. He is still alive. Might find his family tree online. Long shot but maybe worth a try.

I found Grace Evelyn Fairfield on both Ancestry.com and Myheritage. Daughter of Charles James Fairfield (1859 - 1927) and Carrie (Carice) Taylor Bladen (1805 - ). Grace Evelyn born 18 Apr 1883. Records I can see show York, Ontario, Canada. Grace married Charles Alex McGaw in Apr 1933 or 1934 in York, Ontario, Canada. Records show Grace had brother George M Fairfield born in 1886.

There is definitely a connection for the Coulter's to Spain. My father has an extremely re blood disorder that has been traced from Ireland back to Spain via the Spanish Armada. He appears anemic and yet his body stores Iron differently. We know that it originates from the Coulter side, as my fathers half brother also has the affliction

Just got the marriage entry for James Mark and I have created/added the extra details. Rather sadly James father is also a James, so still no obvious link to your Mark family at this time.

I have just had a post from David (Coulter-700) with some details about siblings for David Mark and a reference to his parents marriage. I'll get the marriage entry and that will give us another step further back to a possible link.

Hi Anne,

At this time I only have very limited information on David Mark. He stated when he married and when Minnie was born that he originated from County Down. I'll do a bit more digging to see if I can find any more info that might help confirm a connection.

Do you have additional details regarding Mary Jane's siblings? Simon (New Zealand)
