I am looking at my family trees for Mcormick/McCormack & Gaffney The first McCormick I have is that of

1) Francis & Agnes McComick & Family

1)Francis McCormick born around about 1810 is at present the first McCormick information who came from Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, Ireland and was a tenant farmer who farmed one and three quarter acres of land in the town land of Enagh, in the parish of Magheracloone

2)Agnes Thomson was the wife of Francis McCormick also born in Ireland.

3) John McCormick born about 1831 in Carrickmacross,County Monaghan, Ireland is at present the only family member know to Francis & Agnes.

Francis, Agnes their son John and his wife Ann (Anne) moved to Scotland to escape the famine in Ireland.

2)John McCormick(1831) & Ann (McGrane) McCormick & Family

John McCormick was born around about 1831 and his wife Ann McGrane was born around about 1826.

Early 1844 John McCormick married Ann (nee McGrane) in Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, Ireland

John and Ann McGrane came from the south side of Carrickmacross County Monaghan, Ireland.

All of the family were Catholic.

They arrived in Scotland around 1851.

The 1851 Census show John & Ann staying at Coathill, Old Monkland the following residing there;-

Omoa Square was workers houses owned by the Omoa Iron Works.(see above)

James Gaffney born in 1779 in County Cavan, Ireland Anne (?) Gaffney born in 1784 in County Cavan, Ireland They had 9 children;- Thady Gaffney Laurence Gaffney Phillip Gaffney Bartle Gaffney Mary Gaffney Anne Gaffney Judith Gaffney Margaret Gaffney Rose Gaffney

1800 +/-: Philip Gaffney who was the 3rd son of James & Annie Gaffney was born around 1810 in County Cavan, Ireland. Philip is recorded on his son’s death certificate as have been a farm labourer, likely Catholic and illiterate (because his son was Catholic and signed his name with an X.), born and probably buried in County Cavan, Ireland. Based on 1821 Irish Census Data, Philip Gaffney progeny were concentrated in the Parish of Kilbride in the Southern part of County Cavan. There is yet no proof of Philip Gaffney’s address in Northern Ireland, i.e., Parish or Townland. . 1/2) Bridget O’Neill Gaffney: Philip Gaffney’s was also probably born in or around County Cavan. Bridgett’s forename and maiden name were also found on her son John’s Death Certificate.

1/3) Philip Gaffney & Bridget O’Neill may have been involved in Flax Growing and spinning as a Philip Gaffney is recorded in the 1796 List of Irish Flax Growers in Cavan, Ireland. Based on inspection of Irish and Scottish records, Philip was a relatively uncommon given name among the Gaffney’s.

About 1833 John Gaffney, son of Philip and Bridget O’Neill Gaffney was born in Cavan, Ireland about 1833 and died in the Hamilton Poorhouse on 22 April 1895. (See Information below regarding Hamilton Poor House) John signed his name with an X, was a Catholic coalminer who was buried in an unmarked grave in Bent Cemetery, Hamilton.

I am looking at finding my family members who were born in Ireland -named John McCormick 1931.I have an interest in not only the McCormick family but y other relatives the Gaffneys also born in Ireland with a great number of the Gaffneys moving to the USA. I have a good part of my family tree for McCormick & Gaffney which I will share. The McCormicks moved from Ireland to the Motherwell area of Scotland. The Gaffneys moved to the Hamilton area of Scotland
