Category: Huguenot Emigrants
Categories: Huguenot Migration
(Huguenot Emigrants (1540-1790), born in France or borderlands and who emigrated to another land.)
This category is for those French-speaking Protestant Christians who were alive between 1540 and 1790, commonly known as "Huguenots" or "French Huguenots," and who were forced to leave their French, or French borderland, homes due to religious persecution, notably under the reign of Roman Catholic French King Louis XIV (1648-1715).
Only persons who were born in France or one of her borderlands, like Wallonia, Provence, Languedoc, Alsace-Lorraine, Franche Comté, or the French-speaking Swiss Cantons, and who died abroad (including deaths in Germany, England or the Netherlands), qualify to join this category.
