Biography

Margaret E Pung (née Kroeckel) was born on 23 October 1894 in Rochester, Monroe, New York to German immigrants Johann Kröckel and Maria Barbara Messer. She and her siblings were raised primarily in Irondequoit, where her father worked as a market gardener and general laborer.

At the age of 15, she worked as a servant in the household of Peter F Weis in Rochester.

She married Navy Petty Officer Joseph Albert Pung on 9 June 1912 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Rochester. Together they had two children: Violet and Robert. They lived on Commercial St. in the High Falls district before moving permanently to 28 Schanck Ave.

After Violet died in April 1939, Margaret and Joseph raised her five children with Leland Ray Morrison, who was arrested shortly before she died and was sentenced to state prison.

Margaret passed away on 1 February 1965 at her home on Schanck Ave in Rochester, and was buried three days later in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
