Biography

Profile information was provided by Betty Watts a few days after his death. To my knowledge there was no obituary. Bob led a difficult and to some degree solitary life. His brother Ray was with him at the end, just as anyone who knew them would expect.^[1]

Bob was the son of Jack Greenfield and Ines Miller^[2]

Research

Bob was married to Susan Kinder and LaVern Hinge. (Need sourcing) Bob had one daughter, Connie, with Susan. After their divorce Susan remarried and Connie was adopted by the second husband and took his name. It is possible that the man she married was Shane R. Kaseman.

LaVern had three children from a prior marriage. Bob adopted all three of them and they took his name; Sherry, Mark and Carla Greenfield. After he divorced LaVern they became distant. Betty Watts remembers that Sherry and Carla were living in Las Vegas, NV.^[1] This death notice from 2017 is for Mark according to family sources although I cannot find an obituary. "Greenfield — Mark Alan Greenfield, 52, of Springfield died April 4. Arrangements by Alpha Cremation & Burial Service in Eugene."^[3]

Helen Christine "Chris" (Palmer) Babbitt

Through genetic genealogy it was discovered that Bob or one of his brothers had a child with Alma Sue "Sue" Palmer of Hardin, MT. That child's name is Helen Christine (Palmer) Babbitt and she was born 14 Mar 1963. She goes by Chris and shares over 2,000 cM of DNA with Betty (Greenfield) Watts.^[1]

Bob is the most likely father because Ray was dating a hair dresser named LaVonn at that time and the other brothers were married and not living in Hardin. Bob's father Jack Greenfield was a Deputy Sheriff at the dam where Sue's father was working at the time Chris would have been conceived (June 1962). Bob's little sister Joan also would have just completed her Junior year at Hardin High School on her way to graduating from there in 1963. Bob frequently visited his father in Hardin at that time.^[1]

DNA evidence supporting Chris as Roscoe and Ines Greenfield's granddaughter as fact.

X-DNA

Chris(A454566) shares 98.4 cM of X-DNA with Betty(M084306)^[4]. A complete X chromosome is 195.93cM so this is almost exactly a 50% match. Chris has the entirety of her father's X chromosome and the 50% match with Betty proves Chris is descended from both Roscoe and Ines Greenfield since men only carry their mother's X chromosome. This makes it 100% certain that Chris's father is Betty's full brother.

Chris shares DNA with the following people. The presumed genealogical relationship to Chris is noted followed by the shared DNA and the anticipated range for that relationship:^[5]

The evidence here is overwhelming that Chris is the daughter of one of Betty's full brothers. All the relationships match as would be anticipated by DNA. Which brother remains unproven, but Bob is the most likely father due to known circumstances of all the brothers. For the sake of completeness, the possibility of Roscoe and Ines having had an additional child that no one knows about is essentially zero. If they had a child before Bill, then that child would have been 35 or older at the time of conception. Ines had difficult pregnancies and several living sources confirm that there were no other children.
