Biography

Martha Candler was enumerated as daughter of the head of household at Briar Cliff Road, Decatur, DeKalb County, Georgia for the January 2, United States Census, 1920. She was noted as born 1912 in Georgia and single as seen in the image of the original census. Also included in the household are head Asa G Candler Jr., wife Hellen Candler, daughter Lucy Candler, son John Candler, daughter Laura Candler, daughter Hellen Candler and son Samuel Candler. Also included in the household but not transcribed were servant Landrum Anderson, maid Jessy Anderson (apparently the wife of Landrum), cook Fannie Upshaw and chauffeur (driver) Eli Johnson.^[1]

Martha is shown as having traveled aboard the SS Paris in this August 24, 1927 New York, New York Passenger and Crew List from Le Havre. Her address is listed as 1260 Briarcliff Road, Atlanta, Georgia and she was traveling with Helen Candler as seen in an image of a list of passengers.^[2]

Martha Candler was enumerated as daughter of the head of household at 1260 Briarcliff Road, Militia District 0531, DeKalb County, Georgia for the April 12, United States Census, 1930. She was noted as born 1911 in Georgia and single as seen in an image of the original census. Also included in the household are head Asa G Candler, wife Florence Candler, daughter Helen Candler, son Samuel Candler, servant Jose Cruz, servant Philemon Cruz and servant Vicencio Devera.^[3]

As listed in the Find A Grave Index,^[4] Martha Candler Callaway is buried at Covington City Cemetery in Covington, Newton County, Georgia.^[5]
