“The Baker of Gettysburg” Josephine Slyder’s daughter Rose Blanch Slyder

Hi Wikitreers,

I’m a bit baffled about the life of the daughter of Josephine (Rodgers) Slyder “The Baker of Gettysburg”

We are connecting her genealogy and need collaboration in finding out some questions about her daughter Rose.

Rose Blanch (Slyder) O’Conner was born January 15, 1872 in the Jackson township of Ohio. She married Michael O’Connor on the 26th day of October 1892 in Miami, Ohio at the young age of 18 he was 21.

There is a marriage record for her daughter Rose Marie O'Connor married Horace Edward Seay; however she is no where to be found in the 1900,1910, and 1920 census.

1.) Was daughter Rose Marie O’Conner adopted or born later in life?

2.) Where is this family buried? There is no memorial for any of them or is there?

3.) Finally, is there any obits for any of the family? A death record?

Any collaboration is appreciated

Thank you

Edit: found Memorial for daughter Rose on FindAGrave ?

Here is the FindaGrave listing for her husband Horace:

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/166062206/horace_edward_seay

There is a family tree on ancestry that reflects that Horace and Ruth were divorced on May 29, 1949, in Miami County, Ohio.

Here's a newspaper report of the divorce:

She apparently remarried James Tamplin on April 9, 1949, in Richmond, Indiana:

She later married William Brokschmidt on September 5, 1953, in Richmond, Indiana:

Hi Roger

Thank you!

This helps fill in the gaps in her genealogy. Divorce is a tragedy as many say “worse than a death” in some situations.

It appears she was married to men in military service; veterans of many major wars in U.S. history…I wonder if she ever knew of her grandmothers service at the “Battle of Gettysburg”?

I believe her mother Rose O’Conner was married only one time, but still can not find her memorial or that of her husbands…
Rose was born in 1926…her mother Rose would be age 54. A miracle? Or Adoption?
Irony to note is the fact the granddaughter of the “Baker of Gettysburg” was owner of “Cozy Corner Bar & Restaurant”

It seems like her grandmother she enjoyed this aspect? Baking and cooking?
She was adopted…see 1930 census on her profile.

It’s a bit complex. The household she is in isn’t the O.Connor…yet her name is O’Connor

She definitely was adopted.  Here's a newspaper report:

https://www.newspapers.com/article/miami-union/150829998/

Oh ok so her surname or birth name is “Clark”

That’s a great find!

This is how complex it is for her as she had the last names of  Clark, O’Conner, Seay, Tamplin and Brokschmidt

Which can make her genealogy one of the most complex I’ve seen…

Was she adopted twice in the census shows her living at age 4 in 1930 with the Marec family maybe a foster child?

Found obit for Rose the daughter of the josephine “The Baker of Gettysburg” and it states “she is buried at Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Ohio”

Name spelling “O’Connor” in obit not “O’Conner” but is seen in sources with alt spellings
