Is 2024 your year to join the England Project?

Question

 

The England Project is a fun and collaborative Project team to be involved in. We have several hundred active members creating and improving English Profiles. We have a strong sense of community, and our teams are organised to enable members to work in their areas of interest to help make every English Profile the best it can be.

Your journey with us will begin by completing our Orphan Trail which takes about 4-6 weeks. You will be teamed up with a Trailblazer, a WikiTree Trail Guide, to work with one-on-one. The Orphan Trail helps you learn how to work with our English Profile Standards and where to discover English sources. You’ll find it invaluable when working on your own English ancestors!

During the OT, we get to learn more about you and what your interests are – and you get to learn more about the Project and our members. Once you have finished the Orphan Trail you will join one of our teams beyond the Trail and make connections with members who share your own interests.

I am trying to add an ancestor who was almost certainly born before 1700.   The source I have is a burial record and baptismal records showing his earliest child born in 1710.

The ancestor I am interested in is James Reading.  So far I have found a burial in the adjacent parish to that where his children were baptised in the 1700s.   

I have several other ancestors in other branches of my family whose dates fall before 1700.

Hello,

I am in Canada with a few English ancestors from Yorkshire. I recently started a OPS for Buckfastleigh, Devon, England, because I found the name quite charming. I have been talking with Susie McCloud as she has a ONS for the area. She mentioned that it would be worthwhile for me to take the England Orphan Trail. (I have done the Canadian Orphan Trail but my focus was on people and records from Quebec as that is usually my primary focus.) Many of the profiles I have seen with a location of Buckfastleigh need substantial work so I have decided to join the England OT in order to improve my knowledge of English sources and style.

I would like to join the England Project for many reasons. My Prouse/Prowse ancestry goes back centuries. I have researched the Prowse & allied families for over 50 years and have a large database.  In addition I have recently discovered  a connection to Ben Jonson the playwright through Joseph Johnson, b. I am the manager of Joseph Johnson-109004. There is good reason to believe Joseph is the son of Ben & Ann Lewis. Ben & Ann were Catholic and refused to follow Church of England tenants. Joseph was a trouble and and "incorrigible rogue". He was transported to Jamestown where my ancestor George Prowse lived with Joseph & his wife, Margaret.
