UPDATE: So sorry that I haven't been on WikiTree in a while, I haven't really had time. I'm amazed at how many people showed interest in the project. I was added as a co-coordinator back in May, but the other coordinator left WikiTree and hasn't been active, which left me with a lot of responsibility that I wasn't ready for. If anyone else would like to take on the responsibility of managing the study, that would be great. Thank you so much, and sorry again.

Do you have Allen, Allan, Allin, Allyn, or Alans your family tree? Would you like to join the Allen One Name Study? We’d really appreciate it. The goal is the research and improve as many Allen profiles as possible, and when we’re done, add the ONS sticker.

My great grandmother's LNAB was Allen. My ancestors are mostly from Maine. I have never joined a project before. I reviewed the Allen One Name Studies page and didn't see many specific requirements. Do I have to commit to a specific amount of time, new profiles, etc? Is it okay to focus on my family connections first?  Thanks in advance for your consideration and focus on this surname.
My paternal grandmother was born an Allen. Greta (Gree-ta) Marie Allen born in Idaho.  Lori
What year was she born? Do you know any of your Allen ancestors before her? We'd love to have you in the study.
Grandma was born 1907 in Grangeville, ID.  Her father was George Washington Charles Allen born 1875 in Genesee, ID.  His father was James Bethel Allen born 1846 in TN.  His father was John Calvin Allen born 1811, I don't have his birth location in my notes but I know it's on my computer.  I can give more details later when I turn on my laptop. Grandma's I'd is Allen-21333.

The Allen branch on my tree includes mostly Allen's from western Pennsylvania. I have reached a brick wall with Joseph Z. Allen (1793-1876) who married Nancy Steel (1799-1884). Any suggestions on how to break through that wall would be greatly appreciated. Happy Hunting, Tom

My Mother's Allen line extends to Edward Allen and Sarah Kimball who were married in Ipswich, MA on Nov 24, 1658.  Edward is believed to be from Scotland but I've never been able to trace his family in Scotland.  Thank you for starting this group.

I also descend from Edward and Sarah but on my Dad's paternal side. Last I checked, no on else has been able to trace Edward back, it's still a mystery.  There's a lot of lacking profiles in the family lines going down too.

As an Allen family member, I have added numerous Allen family members to WikiTree. I appreciate your efforts and would like to join your team. I have run into a brick wall with my 4th GGF Joseph Z. Allen, 1793-1876, (Allen-42463). Most of my Allen connections are in the Western PA and Ohio areas. Happy Hunting, Tom

I am a 3rd great-grandson of John Allan who was born in Derry, Ireland, in 1791, to John Allen. Tradition has it that John Allan changed the spelling of his name to match that of his wife, Agnes Allan, as a romantic gesture. Others who knew her suggested she refused to change the spelling of her surname so he gave way. He emigrated to NZ with his family in 1842, and a little later his brother James Allen followed.

Agnes Allan's father was Joseph Allan. My brickwall is the generation that includes Joseph and John Sir. Both are reputed to have fled Scotland for Ulster at the time of the Stuart persecutions but have no more info than that.

The majority of the Allans in my tree live in NZ or Australia. I also have some McAllans who married into the greater family in 1880.

I'm descended from John Allen (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Allan-1427) and Agnes Allan (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Allan-1428).

It's reputed that John's birth surname was Allen and that he changed it to Allan when he married Agnes.  John led an adventurous life and Jan Kelly has published a two-part biography about him in The New Zealand Genealogist magazine (https://genealogy.org.nz/NZG-Digital-Magazines/11094/, Dec 1016, Feb 2017).  It's believed that he was born about 1791 in Northern Ireland (either Strabane, County Tyrone or Derry, County Cavan) but was orphaned before he was 10 years old, when he ran away to sea.  I have possible names for his parents but nothing concrete.

Agnes was born in County Derry but emigrated with her parents to Irvine in Ayrshire, Scotland, when she was about 14 years old.  I've found entries for Agnes' father, Joseph Allan (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Allan-1429), in the 1820 Irvine census and 1841 Scotland census but her mother, Janet Wood (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Wood-46524), died before the 1841 census.  I've not yet found any records in Northern Ireland.
