We've got some interesting new Topics in the England Project!

Bob's Durham Bantams is a topic to honour members of the WWI 'Bantam Battalion' of the Durham Light Infantry. It was made up of men who were between 5 ft and 5 ft 3 inches tall, many of whom had been previously employed underground in collieries. We are yet to clarify exactly who 'Bob' was!

The Queen Victoria's Rifles was a largely London based volunteer unit that was part of the British Army from 1860 - 1961. The topic is initially commemorating the QVR soldiers who were killed in WWII.

The History of Nonconformists in London, England and surrounding counties is about the English protestant nonconformist or dissenting families. Non-Anglicans were able to worship in public after the Toleration Act of 1689 but legally they were still second class citizens.

These topics all include fascinating background information and potentially encompass a lot of individual profiles - do come to have a look at them, links to these and several other interesting topics on the England Project Topics Page. Thanks to the many members who make these interesting topics!  And if you would like to join in with any of the topics please get in touch with the leader or one of the topics coordinators.

Thank you Lynn, that's so helpful. I will add that information to the page.
Confirmed ... they were Bob's after Frederick Roberts, 1st Earl Roberts (Roberts-20106) whose nickname was Bobs and had died on 14 November 1914. "A man of small stature, Roberts was affectionately known to his troops and the wider British public as "Bobs" and revered as one of Britain's leading military figures at a time when the British Empire reached the height of its power."
You are very welcome
