Hi, your RootsSearch site Login box won't accept my WikiTree ID. What is the correct format?

WikiTree X is not working in conjunction with Find A Grave; could you take a look at it when you get the chance? Thanks so much!

Hi Justin, I've been using your FamilySearch Matches app for the last year and I wonder if you'd entertain a feature request.

I seem to have acquired a few too many profiles and now it takes A REALLY LONG TIME to get through them using the tool. Because the tool is basically showing me information on every profile whether or not there is a change, I'm wasting a lot of time going through page after page after page. Is it possible to have an option to a) see only the profiles that aren't connected to a FamilySearch profile, and b) show only the profiles that have updates on FamilySearch?

Thanks for making these amazing tools to help keep all of this information in sync.

Hi Justin, I have been using Wikitree X for a while and now it has stopped working. The page will open, I put in the info click go and nothing It just sits there. I have uninstalled it for now, but I really miss using it. Is there any way you could fix it?

Hi Justin, I installed Wikitree x a few years ago The icon disappeared I believe when I switched computers. It does show in my Chrome extentions. Should I uninstall and install again? Thank you. Im pretty sure I have commented this before but I love it. It is an amazingly helpful tool. Thank you!
posted by Eileen Bradley
Eileen, Chrome has started hiding the extensions by default. You can follow this guide to make the icon show up again: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/pin-extensions-on-the-chrome-toolbar/

G'day Justin

I love using Wikitree X. I use it a lot. I have come across an anomaly. This particular page (and only this page) for Nancy Jean McCarthy https://www.ancestrylibrary.com.au/family-tree/person/tree/35614803/person/172119774089/facts refuses to load values into the subsequent wikitree add a profile page. I created her husband's profile in exactly the same manner that I am attempting for her but no show. No error messages - just a blank add a profile page.

Hi Justin, I really like WikiTree X and am hoping that one day soon it will work with WeRelate.org to bring over so much of my research from there to WikiTree. Any hope for that?

Wait, you're the developer for RootsSearch? That's awesome! I use it all the time.

I really came by because I noticed you descend from Reuben Warriner and I wondered if you'd considered joining the Sons of the American Revolution. I'm in the DAR in Utah with your cousins Nancy and Rebecca Anderson, so I think you'd only have to prove your descent back to [https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Porter-7142 Alma Porter and Minerva Deuel from Porterville.

Take care,

Hey Justin,

I'm consistently having problems getting into Rootsearch. Occasionally it will work for propagating the profile information into it, but more often than not, it goes back and forth between asking me to log in and asking for the profile ID. Then it goes back to asking me to log in again, but never gets the profile loaded into it. It doesn't matter if I'm using Chrome or Vivaldi which is based off of Chrome.

Can you check into it please?

Hi Justin,

What has happened to Rootsearch?

It first asks me to log in with WikiTree, then with email and password, then with profile ID. Once loaded on a profile and searching it takes me to a search for my own personal profile. Then I have to do another search from the profile I am trying to research.

Thank you for any help, David

I'm sorry that's happening. I haven't seen it do that so it may be hard for me to figure it out. I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for the reply, Justin!

I can send you screenshots if that will help and would need your WikiTree email address.

Hi Justin,

What has happened to Rootsearch?

Right now it is a loop: email & password request takes me to a screen that asks for my Wikitree ID, which takes me back to the page asking for email & password which takes me to the screen that asks for my Wikitree ID, which.....etc.

It is all your fault you know. You give us the coolest tool and when it doesn't work, we all fall down....

I saw in G2G that I wasn't the only one having a problem with RootsSearch. I thought I had goofed up my passwords. It appears I'm not alone. I just wanted to add my note that RootsSearch is just blinking briefly and going nowhere. I see there is a problem with WikiTree X. Roots search is the only one I use. In any case, I'm sure you are aware of the problem. I'll be pleased to see a solution. Thanks for the great tool.

Wikitree X is not working. Normally it worked great and I really like it when it works. Now, it opens a new window instead of staying at the Familysearch profile that I want to grab the profile information from. Please check it out when you can and let me know when it is fixed. Thank you Justin.

We had to change the way WikiTree X worked because of security changes that Chrome made. The new window is supposed to open. Other than that, it should function the same as before. Just enter your options and click one of the buttons. Do the buttons not work for you?
posted by Justin York
Hey, it worked. You will probably want to change the wording on the help file to show that a blank window opens, but it still works.

Thanks for your apps for Wikitree.

Justin, thank you very much for the FS-Matches tool; I use it pretty regularly to sync my work between the two trees. However, there are a couple of aspects of the tool that bug me every time I use it. Have you seen my G2G posts about this?

Hello Justin,

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the RootsSearch tool! It is the best thing since air became available to breathe! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Appreciatively, Cindy

PS I just realized that you are responsible for WikiTree X as well!!!!! The two things I use every single day and I thank you again for that as well! Go WikiTree X!

Hi Justin,

I have (I believe) followed/fulfilled individual profile privacy settings accordingly. But I am still unable to access/process Rootsearch tool? Is there a particular detail I am missing?

Please, can you help me understand why I can not sign into Rootsearch? I'm so frustrated with it.

Justin,

The links to Family Search in your WikiTree Watchlist FS Matching app no longer work. They end up forwarding you to your own profile because Family Search no longer recognizes them. The new link format looks like this: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LT57-T9X

Hey Justin,

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards .

If you need to describe an event, heirloom or a location relevant to your research, try Free Space Profiles .

If you run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving these unfortunate situations.

A project of note is the Global Family Reunion check it out at Global Family Reunion.

Hi Justin,

Just a quick PS

Don't forget to Head over to the G2G forum. and take a minute to introduce yourself in the Tree House or ask a question in any of the other categories. There's also a brickwall tag in the G2G forum: for that "special" ancestor who is eluding you.

If you have pre-1700's ancestors to add please read our Pre-1700 profiles info.

Best Wishes, and have fun adding your leaves and branches!
