Biography

The son of Ambrose Wilson III and Caroline (Vanderpool) Wilson, George was born in Mount Forest in 1895.[1] He registered for the draft on June 5, 1917, at the age of 21. He stated his occupation was farming, and he was described as being a short man with a medium build, brown hair and grey eyes.[2] He enlisted on April 29, 1918 and served as a Private 1st Class in the 337th Infantry's Company F, a supply company.[3] He sailed out of Brest, France, aboard the President Grant, on July 1, 1919 and arriving into Boston on July 12th.[4]

He returned to his family's home in Mount Forest after the war[5] and married Julia Margaret Guinan (1901-1954), a Canadian immigrant and the daughter of Thomas Edward Guinan and Matilda Elderbroom. They married in Port Huron, Michigan on October 9, 1926.[6] Their children included:

  1. Garry Lawrence Wilson (1928-2013)
  2. Gerald L. Wilson (1931-2016)

He passed away at the age of 75[7] and is buried at Saint Michaels Cemetery in Pinconning, Michigan.[8][9][10]
