Biography
Nancy J. Williams was born on 18 Oct 1835 in Alabama. She was the daughter of Josiah Williams and Jane McMurry. Nancy passed away in Arkansas on 18 Sep 1921 and was buried in the Settlement Cemetery, Shirley, Arkansas.[1]
1850 Census: Nancy Williams is living with her father, Josiah R. Williams (47), in the Hamilton Township of Pairie County, Arkansas. The record notes that Nancy was 14 years old and that she was born in Alabama. Also residing in the home were Nancy's siblings Mary (24), Hiram (20), Maudahem (19), George (16), Laurena (12), Nellie (9), Asa (6), and Massa (4). [2]
14 Jan 1867: Nancy Simpkins and John Cottrell are married in Van Buren County, Arkansas.[3]
1870 Census: Nancy J. and John H. (46) Cottrell are living in the Union Township of Van Buren County, Arkansas. The record indicates that Nancy was 35 years old and that she was born in Tennessee. There are 6 children in the couple's home: Gilbert (11), Rhonda (3), and Asa (6 months) Cottrell; Thomas (16), Elizabeth (14), and Monroe (12) Simpkins. Additionally, Nelly Williams (23) is listed as a memeber of the household.[4]
