Biography

This profile is a placeholder for the parent(s) of Francesco Tulipano and Felice Martorano, brothers, or possibly half-brothers, as confirmed by DNA testing.

Felice was born on 18 May 1895 in the town of Luzzi in the Cosenza district of the province of Calabria, Italy. His birth record indicated he was born "da una donna che non consente di essere nominata" (of a woman who did not want to be named), and no father's name was given either.^[1]

Two years later, Francesco was born on 31 March 1897, and that birth was registered in Cosenza, Calabria, Italy, with the same indication on the birth record, with neither parents names given.^[2]

Both sons ended up being raised on farms, though neither apparently officially adopted by those foster families. Felice left for America as soon as he was able, when he was 18, and raised a family in New Jersey, U.S.A. Francesco married and raised a family in Belsito, then later he and his wife moved to Orillia, Ontario, Canada, where most of his children had emigrated to and had their own families established.

Research Notes

DNA match between AT, son of Francesco Tulipano, and HS, daughter of Felice Martorano, of 758 cM across 24 segments, indicate 93% probability that they are 1st cousins, or 6% probability they are half 1st cousins. Genealogical research comparing all lines confirms they do not match on either of their mother's lines. AT and HS must at least share one grandparent in common (this profile), the common parent of Francesco and Felice. It is 93% likely that they in fact share both parents, but I am awaiting further evidence before adding another profile.
