Frank Bernice Thornton was born on May 3, 1913 in Bryan, Texas.[1][2]He was son of Frank Thornton age 21 and his mother Aline Weaver age 18. He was their first child. He had two sisters. His father died young, at age 35, in 1927, when Frank was 14 years old. His mother remarried Clifford Parks. At the age of 16, he was iln their home along with his two sisters, Doris-15, and Elsie-11, Living on U.S. Highway 66, in South Albuquerque, Bernalillo Co., New Mexico. [3]They lived in several locations in the Albuquerque NM area. He quit School in the 11th grade to help with the family income, going to work as a Baker. As a child growing up he learned to speak Spanish from the neighbor boy, Later he learned sign language working in the bakery with Deaf bakers.[4]
He married Gwendolene (Cleveland) Thornton on December 7, 1935, when he was age 22.[5] They built a home in the South Valley of Albuquerque where they lived until their deaths.[6] They had three daughters during their marriage.
He was a baker by trade.[7] In 1957, He changed occupations when the flour dust started bothering his lungs. He became a milk delivery man/Salesman to private homes, for Valley Gold Dairies.[8] He and Gwen worked in the Church all their lives. The first community non Denominational Sunday School in the Barcelona School was started by Presbyterian Missionaries. Frank and Gwen helped to kept it going for 13 years. They taught Sunday School Classes all their adult lives. They sponsored the youth, taking them roller skating and had parties at their home for them. He also loved to sing, singing solo’s and in the Choir. He played the marimba, loved to garden, and his animals.[4]
He died on November 19, 1999 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 86, and was buried there in the Fairview Memorial Cemetery.[1][9] Cause of death was from Phemonia.
