History/Timeline

Artifacts recovered in the present Bee County region suggest that the earliest human inhabitants arrived around 6,000 to 10,000 years ago and camped along the creek valleys. At the time of the first contact with Europeans, various Karankawa bands inhabited the eastern part of the future county, while Lipan Apaches and Borrados roamed the northwest and southwest sections. The Skidi Pawnees left arrow heads in Sulphur Creek
1830's Early settlers in the 1830s lost family members to Indian raids.
Jan 25, 1858:The county was organized in 1858 and the county seat was about 7 miles from the current courthouse. [1]
1859- A post office was established and the next year the first courthouse was built. [1]
1886 Six years earlier, Beeville only had about 300 people in 1880, until the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad came through in 1886, the population rose to one thousand. [1]
1903 -Beeville received a water works and electricity, and the sewer was built in 1910. [1]
1929:There was a small oil boom in 1929, but it wasn't enough for Beeville to escape the Great Depression.[1]
1940-A Naval Aviation Station was set up during World War II and although it was deactivated at war's end, it was reopened for Korea. It was closed again in 1992, and a reminder of its presence is noted by the aircraft on the courthouse lawn. [1]
