Formed From
Bee County was formed Dec 8, 1857 and organized Jan 25, 1858, from parts of five existing counties: San Patricio County, Goliad County, Refugio County, Live Oak County, and Karnes County. Beeville was named the county seat in honor of Barnard E. Bee, Sr.

History/Timeline
- Artifacts recovered in the present Bee County region suggest that the earliest human inhabitants arrived around 6,000 to 10,000 years ago and camped along the creek valleys. At the time of the first contact with Europeans, various Karankawa bands inhabited the eastern part of the future county, while Lipan Apaches and Borrados roamed the northwest and southwest sections. The Skidi Pawnees left arrow heads in Sulphur Creek
- 1830's Early settlers in the 1830s lost family members to Indian raids.
- Jan 25, 1858:The county was organized in 1858 and the county seat was about 7 miles from the current courthouse. [1]
- 1859- A post office was established and the next year the first courthouse was built. [1]
- 1886 Six years earlier, Beeville only had about 300 people in 1880, until the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad came through in 1886, the population rose to one thousand. [1]
- 1903 -Beeville received a water works and electricity, and the sewer was built in 1910. [1]
- 1929:There was a small oil boom in 1929, but it wasn't enough for Beeville to escape the Great Depression.[1]
- 1940-A Naval Aviation Station was set up during World War II and although it was deactivated at war's end, it was reopened for Korea. It was closed again in 1992, and a reminder of its presence is noted by the aircraft on the courthouse lawn. [1]

3rd Courthouse Style - Beaux-arts, built of brick. It has the many items we expect in a grand Beaux arts court house, clock, dome, statue of the Goddess of Justice and large Corinthian columns.. It still stands today.

At the time the last courthouse was built, Beeville was paving the streets.[1]
Geography
- Location- Rio Grande plain of south central Texas, 50 miles NW of Corpus Christi,146 miles SE of Austin.
- Latitude/Longitude- center point -28°25' N latitude and 97°45' longitude.
- Size: 866 square miles that slope gently to the coast.
- Elevation - 200 to 300 feet.
- Rio Grande embayment. Lissie and Beaumont formations extend in S part of the county to form a broad, flat, and fertile plain.
- Rivers/Creeks - Blanco, Medio, and Aransas creeks and their tributaries, flow SE
- SOILS SW - corner: southwest corner clayey soils or loamy surfaces
- N2/3 have dark alkaline soil with loam surface
- Remainder - light color acidic soil with loam beneath.
- Prime Farmland--41% - 50% prime farmland.
- Vegetation --grasslands, scattered shrubs and cacti.
- Animals: Buffalo, antelopes, deer, bears, panthers, and wolves early years., also wildcats, coyotes, and jackrabbits. Small --mammals foxes, squirrels, opossums, mice, rats, gophers, skunks, moles, and bats.
- Climate subtropica, humid, -mild winters and warm summers.
- Temperatures - January average low of 42° F to 65°, and July (73° to 96°).
- Rainfall thirty inches. no snowfall.
- Growing season --275 days per year,- last freeze in late February and first freeze- December. :Hurricanes are likely to occur during the late summer.
